Chairman Message

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful Praise to Allah, prayer and peace on Allah’s best creation and the last messenger, Prophet Mohammed (May peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

There is no doubt that the Endowments (Waqf) are playing an important role in the Islamic society, where some successive generations of righteous had contributed to allocate and direct it to serve humanitarian, social and legitimacy purposes to continue to benefit the next generations forever.

The term “Endowment” (Waqf) has a long history in the Kingdom of Bahrain since the Muslim conquests, where everyone pursued to apply its provisions and to commit to its path in their daily life.

The Waqf has become the basis of the country’s development, the poverty’s elimination, the prohibition of discrimination, and to meet the religious aspirations of the people as indicated in the Hadith; When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: (ongoing charity); beneficial knowledge, or a righteous son who prays for him.

There are more than 4,000 Waqfs nowadays within the records of the Jaffaria Waqf Directorate (JWD) in Bahrain, because many people contributed to build the basis of thisWaqf to ensure the continuous benefit even after their Shaikh Mohsin Al Asfoor Chairman of the Jaafari Endowments death.

Some of those people became great famous scholars inside and outside Bahrain. They had a major role in the development of the Waqfs, supervising and approving the instruments, etc. According to the requirements of the Modern management systems in state-building, the Jaffaria Waqf Directorate (JWD) was officially established in 1972 as a body responsible for the management and follow-up the affairs of the Waqfs. In the last 89 years, many achievements were accomplished, as the JaffariaWaqfs is considered as an official body for the followers of the Jaffaria doctrine to protect their Sanctities and to serve their aspirations.

Since its establishment, JWD is receiving a generous support from the wise leadership as there are financial allocations for those who manage the Directorate, and there are dozens of lands granted to the Waqfs by royal decrees, and there is the yearly support from the King of Bahrain to the charity in Muharram every year.

Today, through the new Board of Directors of JWD and the adoption of an ambitious strategy, we are doing our best to continue in the same way and to achieve more in the future in addition to what we have done during the last four months since my appointment in the JWD.

We are looking forward for more support from HH the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf especially in solving the fiscal deficit and to register more than 600 suspendedWaqfs in order to enable JWD to overcome all the problems and obstacles it may encounter in managing the Shia community affairs.

The Jaffaria Waqfs guide in its first edition is highlighting the establishment period, the names of all the heads and board members, and the achievements of the current board since its establishment to make this edition a beneficial source for everyone.
