Shaikh Hussain Al Asfoor Mosque Project in Shakhura Village, which will be submitted by the Jaffaria Waqf Directorate to the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs chaired by Abdullah bin Khalid Al Khalifa, to be included within the future plan for the construction of mosques that are carried out by the Supreme Council, represents one of the distinctive landmarks in the Bahrain.
It is hoped that this mosque will be one of the largest mosques in the Northern Governorate, and will be built on an area of one square kilometers, and will accommodate 8,500 worshippers, and will also include a parking space that accommodates 250 cars.
The mosque project includes the first and largest circular library in Bahrain, and an institute for teaching Quran and Hadith, and institutes for orators and a traditional Hawza. The engineering of the mosque is very creative and it will be one of the distinctive landmarks in Bahrain, and the cost of construction will worth about BD. 20,000. This mosque will be reconstructed to replace Shaikh Hussain Al Asfoor Historic Mosque and his Hawza that was built in 1192 AH / 1771 AD.
The design idea of the project is based on finding a circular courtyard for the mosque surrounded by a corridor to move to the basic services of the mosque which is inspired by the Islamic architecture of the old mosques. There are two main gates for the mosque, one for men and the other for women.
The external interface of the mosque is designed with a modern architecture style which is simple and strong, and the mosque was decorated with geometric decoration and pointed Fatimid arches.
